Community Service Opportunities for Saratoga High Students

Current Opportunities:

Turkey Trot, November 23, 2023, San Jose
We are seeking volunteers to ensure that the event runs smoothly! We are seeking adults, youth, and volunteer groups to help on the event day with:

  • Checking-in volunteers & runners
  • Hydration stations & Course monitoring
  • Race Bib/Packet Pick-up
  • Kid’s Fun Run & Fun Zone
  • Refreshments
  • And much more!

The race is EARLY (starts at 8:30am) and volunteers arrive between 5am to 7am to ensure all areas in this event run smoothly, the whole event is concluded by 11:30am ensuring you’ll be home on time for Thanksgiving Dinner!  This event is perfect for friends, and family (minimum age to volunteer is 14yrs of age and students will get service hours verification upon request).

Engage STEM San Jose/Morgan Hill:
Engage STEM San Jose/Morgan Hill is a student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide & promote accessible STEM education. Engage STEM SJ/MH is looking for volunteers to be tutors for Math Tutoring, teachers for Java and Biochemistry Classes, and/or team members for its Community Outreach Team!

All volunteers can gain official volunteer hours while working with students and making an impact in our community! All volunteering is virtual. To learn more, check out the applications or the flyers.

Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative:
They are a local non-profit that serves in Title I schools to promote physical activity and empowerment in the communities who need it most. We have two programs, BAWSI Girls and BAWSI Rollers. BAWSI Girls is an after-school program for 2nd - 5th grade girls. BAWSI Rollers is a program for children with disabilities. We have 16 sites across the area and are always in search of volunteers to help us at our sites and play with the kids. There are opportunities to serve with BAWSI at the Pediatric Subacute Center in Saratoga. Saratoga Library:
We only have a limited number of volunteer slots available and will assign them to eligible applicants on a first come first serve basis. Interested teens can email me at bspring@sccl.org.

Breathe California-Volunteer Activities:
Sleep Safe Program-Sleep apnea program provides necessary medical equipment, calibration services and help for uninsured patients We are looking for volunteers to sterilize the machines, sort masks and database entry.

Health Fair Assistant:
We are looking for volunteers interested in representing Breathe California of the Bay Area at health fairs taking place at local colleges, community agencies, and corporations. Volunteers will staff a booth from which they will distribute literature as well as promote our agency’s programs and services.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society:
CALLING ALL STUDENT LEADERS!
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is looking for high school students who are interested in a fun and engaging philanthropic leadership development opportunity through the Students of the Year program. This seven-week fundraising competition is a great way to build your resume, connect with Silicon Valley business leaders, and network with your peers, all while helping cure cancer. Scholarship opportunities and volunteer hours are available. Are you ready to join this elite group of student leaders in the battle again cancer? We are accepting applications and candidates now! The Health Trust:
Food Basket Food Sorting Team, 9am-11am – Sort, store and display fresh produce at The Health Trust Jerry Larson FOOD Basket. This produce will later be offered to our AIDS Services, and Family Resource Center clients. Availability: 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month. Group Size: 15-25 volunteers.
Grocery Store Set Up Team, 9am-11am – Volunteers will set up our grocery area for our AIDS Services and Family Resource Center clients to come in and shop later in the day. Availability: Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Group Size: 5-10 volunteers.
Assemble Grocery Bags, 9am-11am – Pack grocery bags at The Health Trust Jerry Larson FOOD Basket. These bags will later be offered to our AIDS Services, Meals On Wheels, Coordinated Care (recently housed homeless), and Rapid Re-Housing clients. Availability: Tuesday and Thursday.
Group Size: 2-5 volunteers.
Hygiene Drive – Host a hygiene drive at your site for our HIV/AIDS Services and Meals on Wheels clients. Lunch hour can be used as a team building opportunity to assemble hygiene bags on site (attached is a list of items we could use). Contact: volunteers@healthtrust.org to look at potential dates.

Girls On The Run:
Girls on the Run is a non profit that seeks to encourage pre-teen girls (grades 3rd-8th) to develop self respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons and games, culminating in a celebratory 5K run.
